He was introducing a concept of education and training which flew in the face of Western-style education based on sense gratification, bodily misidentification, and family attachment. It was clear that he proposed something totally revolutionary, which sounded foreign and perhaps even shocking to a Western sensibility. He admits this as he continues his strong denunciation of Western civilization which he condemns as training which is “ … geared to producing cats and dogs who will feel quite at home in a society of sense gratification.” Srila Prabhupada foresaw that this sort of education would never be accepted in the West, as educational and governmental authorities would see it as threatening and cruel and ultimately close it down. Or, if it was not closed, they would pass so many restrictions that it would become “unrecognizable and useless.”
In this letter, Srila Prabhupada is outlining the advantages of Vrndavana life in terms of atmosphere, spiritual benefits, costs, scriptural authenticity, and governmental support and noninterference. He points out that the ancient Vedic system will be supported in Vrndavana, and that practices which would be considered cruel in the West would be very beneficial from the spiritual point of view.
